Week Five, Day Three
Meeting Needs in Your Neighborhood
Matthew 25:34-45

We believers have a serious problem.  When we come to know Christ, we quench that eternal thirst all humans experience until they find the refreshment only God can give.  Unfortunately, in our human frailty we too quickly forget how deep that longing was, and as a result, we have a hard time understanding the unbelievers around us.  We go on assuming that our neighbors and friends would rather not hear the Good News that we might inconvenience them by bringing up eternal things in conversation.

We must never forget that, whether they appreciate your presentation now or in eternity, unsaved people have a deep, deep void that only God can fill; and while they may not know why they have the void, it is there all the same.

Todayıs passage provides wonderful insight into how we can share the most important news when we meet the needs around us, people become open to the deeper spiritual needs within them.  Jesus was famous for meeting a physical need in order to gain the attention of those who had needs that were far deeper.  Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, and even showed respect for those who were shameful.

Thomas Road Baptist Church has a home for men who have an addiction to drugs and alcohol.  Through that home, many have walked away never to use drugs or liquor again.  The underlying glory of the Elim Home, however, is that while their addictions were dealt with, they were open to the Gospel.  Hundreds of these men and their families have come to Christ because the Body of Christ sought to meet their needs.

What are the deepest needs in your neighborhood?  How about in your office or community?  What creative ways could you use to meet them that might afford a chance to share the Gospel?

Pray that God would open your eyes to the deep needs all around you.
