We live in a weary world. Most people stay tired all the time! Do you think this is what God would want?
In the Old Testament, God commanded His people to ³Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.² The Sabbath was a day set aside for both rest and worship. From the very beginning, God meant for the two to go together. When we worship God, we will find the rest that we long for; and when we get appropriate rest, we will become better worshipers!
Jesus said, ³Come to me all you who are weary² When you are weary and tired, the solution is to first go to Jesus. The REST doesnıt come through DOING NOTHING but through coming to JESUS!
Based on what Jesus said, which of these two choices would be more restful?
A month-long cruise on a private yacht, with servants to cater to your every need. This vacation includes stops at the most beautiful beaches in the world, and unlimited shopping at hundreds of wonderful stores of your choosing. A world-class chef would serve up your favorite dishes at every meal. However, you would not have time for God. After all youıre on vacation!
A one-day getaway to the mountains, with only your family, a picnic basket, and a Bible. You spend the day hiking, talking about your hopes and dreams as a family, and thanking God for all that He has done. The day is highlighted by a devotion time at the peak of a great overlook.
The greatest vacation in the world canıt give the rest we need unless the rest is combined with worship.
Ask God to give you the rest He promises as you learn to worship Him.
