Week Three, Day Three
Planning Vs. Trusting
James 4:13-16

As men, sometimes itıs tough to find Godıs balance in the area of planning for the future.  It seems so much easier to throw our problems over our shoulders and plunge ahead rather than to stop and ask God for directions.

It seems that most of us fall into two extremes when it comes to this issue:

  1. We Ignore Where God Says to Go.  Sometimes it is all too obvious which direction we need to go in certain areas of life, and yet we hesitate.  We over-spiritualize our inaction by telling ourselves that we are waiting to hear from God.  Is there something that God has already made clear to you on which you have yet to take action?

  1. We Count On Ourselves.  All too often we try to ³go it alone² boldly believing that we can forge our own spiritual path without the Lordıs guidance.  More often than not, this results in failure or frustration.

Todayıs Scripture passage doesnıt say that we should not plan Paul continually shared his goals for coming days but it does say that we should plan with a spirit of prayer, humility, and trust.  This comes from realizing how quickly things can change and counting only on Godıs provision and protection.
