Prayer Superheroes!
Acts 16:25-34

Materials You Will Need:  A towel or sheet for every family member to use as a cape.  A sheet of paper cut in the shape of a cape, and some markers.

This is one great story!  Paul and Silas had just gotten through with a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day, and now they were in jail even though they had done nothing wrong.  What would you be doing if you were them?

Paul and Silas did something that probably made no sense to the prisoners around them, but it made a big difference in what happened!  They prayed to God, and God answered them.  Because of their prayers, the jailer and his whole family trusted in Jesus.

In the same way, our prayers to God can make a huge difference in the lives of those around us.  Who is your favorite superhero?  Paul and Silas were probably ³superheroes² to that jailer and his family, because they showed the Jailer the good news about Jesus!  Paul and Silas did four things that can make a big difference in our lives as well.  Most superheroes wear a cape, and we can use the letters in the word CAPE to learn what we can do:

  1. Consider the needs of others.  What needs do people around you have?  How can you pray for them?
  2. Acknowledge the needs of others.  That means we let people know we are praying for them.  Have you ever asked someone if you can pray for them?
  3. Petition God for the needs of others.  Petition is just a fancy word for ask donıt forget to ask God to do great things in the lives of those around you!
  4. Expect great things.  Jesus told us in the Bible over and over to ask Him for great things.  God is a BIG God.  So why should we expect Him to do anything but BIG things?  Donıt be surprised if you start to see miracles happen around you!

Activity:  During the devotion, everyone should where a ³cape², to drive home the point that EVERY person in the family can be a prayer superhero!  After reading the devotion, set out the paper cape cutout, and have everyone write down names of people who your family will pray for on a regular basis.  Keep that cape in a prominent place in your home like the refrigerator door, and pray for them together daily.
