The children of Israel had it all God was their king and the Promised Land was their home. Admittedly, there were certainly some problems Samuelıs sons were corrupt, and the elders of Israel wanted to make things better. But surprisingly, the solution they chose to remedy the problem was where they went astray.
Rather than go to the King of Kings for their needs, they sought a human answer in a human king. The Lord gave them what they wanted, and His people suffered for generations because of their quest to be like all of the other nations.
As the world around us becomes more and more degraded, it seems our goal as Christians has moved from being God-pleasers to simply trying to be a little better than the world. As a result, most believers can track a parallel between our own spiritual decline and that of the culture around us. We have sought to rise above the world rather than to rest in Godıs unchanging standard.
If we want our homes to please our Father, we have to first learn to ignore what ³all the other nations² are doing, and get back to pleasing the only one that matters.
Application:
Are there standards in your life that are lower than they once were in your Christian walk?
Could it be that you have listened more to the worldıs principles than to the Lordıs?
Ask God to pinpoint areas in your life that have strayed from His best.
