Week Two, Day One
Self-Control
II Peter 1:5-7

The Word of God is clear- we are called to be people who control ourselves.  The word self-control simply means we donıt need others to restrain us because we are able to show our own restraint if we mess up, itıs no oneıs fault but our own.

Romans chapter seven talks about how frustrating it is when we do things that we really donıt want to do.  We may know that we donıt need to eat another unhealthy desert, but we find ourselves doing it anyway.  We know that we need to get up in the morning, but we hit the ³snooze² button seven times.

Fortunately, the Bible also gives some clear steps to self-control:

  1. Prayer (does that sound familiar?)

  2. Choosing the right way.  If you choose nothing, your life will often be filled by the very behavior you are trying to avoid.  If you are asking God for self-control over a bad habit, you might need to replace it with a new good habit.

  3. Ask for help.  If you are struggling with self-control in a certain area, ask someone you love and respect to encourage and pray for you.
